Deanna Tyson

Deanna Tyson’s exhibition “Until lions write their own history the tale of the hunt will always glorify the hunter” is showing now until 3 January 2014.

The exhibition opening will be held on Saturday 6 July 2013 from 2.30 – 4.30 pm

Opening hours are 9 am – 5 pm weekdays.

For her exhibition at The Alison Richard Building Deanna Tyson has both selected and created works in response to the study Centres housed within, African, Latin American, South Asian, Politics and Development Studies.

Taking the form of kimono, wall hangings, mats, soft sculptures and paintings she tells her political tales and weaves her social comments through stitched and painted textiles.

“Textiles, their application, their colours, their very threads and stitches reveal a great deal about the social history of differing cultures. Exploiting the ubiquitous nature of textiles,       I take contemporary political events and portray them through clothing and soft furnishing.  I regard my works as three dimentional political cartoons.”

A Journey from East to West

Jane Perryman is exhibiting ceramics, photography and film from 17 April to 18 June 2013, the private view will be held on 30 April 2013 from 5 – 8 pm.

Exhibition opening times are Monday to Friday 9 am – 5 pm

Jane Perryman’s ceramic work investigates the vessel as an abstract form and draws on her research into the traditional pottery making and firing techniques of village India.
The quintessential round bottomed pot form is designed to sit on a mud floor or on a
three- pronged cooking stove. Perryman had adopted its qualities of balancing on a tiny point where it sits on a flat surface, enabling it to rock from side to side without falling over
as it comes back to its centre of gravity. The form is both vulnerable and secure. The
composite pieces also reference contemporary urban structures such as buildings,
walls and bridges, exploring tension and balance where the two forms are placed
together. They are not static and invite interaction through repositioning into new
arrangements and compositions.

A Journey from East to West features the artist’s ceramic sculpture as well as a DVD
film and documentary photographs of Indian potters at work. Continue reading

HUMAN FLOWS Photographic Exhibition

at the University of Cambridge

HUMAN FLOWS is a photographic exhibition of compelling images that explore flows in all their manifestations including – but not limited to – dance, body, energy, migration, pilgrimage and protest.

Flows are an integral property of the human experience. They influence our actions as individuals and as a society. From Dance to Migration, from Energy to Pilgrimage, flows can take many forms. Flows may be voluntary or forced, invited or constrained.

Winning photographs will be selected by a prestigious jury of photography professionals and academics for an exhibition at the University of Cambridge.

The exhibition will be launched on Thursday February 7, 2013 with a public symposium on the theme of “Human Flows”

Human Flows is presented by The Centre for Research in the Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities (CRASSH) of the University of Cambridge in association with United Photo Industries.

Convened by Dr Christos Lynteris (CRASSH) and curated by Sam Barzilay (Creative Director, United Photo Industries).

Paradise

An exhibition by Noel Myles

11 October 2012 – 20 December 2013

Throughout Noel Myles’s work there is a consistent aim to extend the still photographic image beyond the single moment and the static viewpoint. The intention is to evoke the perception of accumulated experience.

His photographs establish a form of depiction that refers to moving film and single-frame photography but which is independent of both.

Myles’s pictures have been shown in solo and mixed exhibitions that include the V&A Museum, National Museum of Photography Film and Television, National Portrait Gallery, Contemporary Art Society, Royal College of Art, Royal Academy of Art, Royal Photographic Society and the Serpentine Gallery.

He has been Artist-in-Residence for Rowe and Maw, Shaftesbury PLC and ITN.
