Putting Dirt in its Place

2 – 3 June 2017

This pop-up exhibition accompanies the conference “Putting Dirt in Its Place: Contemporary Politics of Waste,” and explores waste in images and the imaginary through sculpture, photography and mixed media. Contributions include work from artists Tomo, Delphine and Michael Meneghetti, photographs from conference participants and Latin American projects involving waste workers, and sculptures and craftwork in collaboration with the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology’s Another India Exhibition. Using video stills and QR codes the exhibition will also link to audiovisual material showing the complex entanglements created as waste is used to create dwellings, clothes, musical instruments, craft-work and provide nourishment, raise awareness of waste itself and question what, or who is discarded.
